Low Vision Services

Low vision is defined as visual impairments that are not correctable through surgery, medication, glasses or contact lenses. Millions of Americans have low vision, most commonly from diseases such as diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and glaucoma.

Dr. Goldberg trained in providing low vision services at the Hines VA Blind Rehabilitation Center. At Focused Eye Care, Dr. Goldberg continues to care for patients affected by low vision. Examinations consist of a thorough history to discuss each patient’s individualized needs, measurements of visual function, and an evaluation of various optical devices to improve vision. Such devices may include magnifiers, telescopes, and digital devices. Additionally, colored filters and sunglasses may be used to improve contrast and/or ocular comfort. Non-optical low vision aids may be discussed as well.

To prepare for your low vision examination, please bring records from your current eye doctor indicating the cause of your visual impairment, any glasses you may have, as well as any reading materials you are having difficulty with (mail, books, etc.) Your initial visit will take about 1 hour.

To schedule a low vision consultation, please call us at (847) 243-8176.
